Parts Processing

Sense.Open.Move.Awaken

Parts are patterned somatic states and must be processed in and through the living body (SOMA).

Our somatic processing method uses four core experiential modalities; each takes us deeply into the felt sense, perceived threat, capacity, suppressed emotion, and movement instinct of any part.

Sense.Open.Move.Awaken

Parts Processing

Sense.Open.Move.Awaken™

"Decades after the event, trauma leaves behind  imprints of fragmentation and survival. S-O-M-A gently reaches and nurtures the imprint, loosening the defense, and re-integrating parts into their wholeness." Dr. Kutsko

 Sense

Get to know the Part

------

Attune to the felt-sense of  your embodied part and its system of collapse or mobilization.  Discover   images, sensations,  memories, and emotions present. Identify through the felt sense, the emotional root system.

 Open

 Befriend The Part

------

Our Red and Grey Systems are defensively "closed" feedback loops. They keep connection out and narrowly focus on perceived threat. They have  become  locked in patterns of  defensive protection with connection to safety minimized or closed.

Using various forms of nervous system resourcing, opening  primes the system to be more accessible; to unlock.

The system opens when  permission for whatever emerges is felt -- when we welcome what has been un-welcomed.  Safety unearths and opens the nervous system.

 Move

Express Emotion

-----

Attune to autonomic mobilization instincts. Begin to move survival states with shaking, sighing, sounding, humming, and various forms of expression.

Gently move dorsal parts out of immobilization.

 Awaken

 Remember Its Authentic State

-----

Attune to the wise mind within and listen for truth. Allow the emergence of a more integrated authentic state of connection. Rooted in nurture, remember dignity, creativity, playfulness, and benevolence.

Awaken from red and grey trance states of fear and unworthiness and repurpose your parts role from defense to expression and connection.

 Processing Modalities

These modalities are interwoven into the four phases of S-O-M-A.

Felt-Sense Inquiry

Use Gendlin's Felt Sense inquiry protocol.

Yoga Therapy

Visualize, embody and sense the postures and patterns of any part.

Breathwork

Rhythmic breathing, slow breathing and breath-holds support expression and regulation. Breath opens your systems feedback loops.

Resourcing

Learn how to somatically ground and create embodied safety.

Bi-Lateral Stimulation

Use eye movement to facilitate the processing of parts and to move clients out of states of freeze into mobilization.

Inner Child Dialogue

Learn to guide a client into a meditative process between their wise parent/self and inner, wounded or exiled child.

EFT - Tapping

Soften the body's contractions using meridians and nerurolinguistic programming.

MEET

Carolyn Kutsko, PhD

Dr. Kutsko, Soma PartsWork™ founder, is a licensed therapist and holds her PhD in Somatic and Clinical Psychology with certificates in EMDR, Relational Somatic Psychotherapy, Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, BodyWay Emotional Eating Recovery, The Daring Way, Thai Massage, and Somatic Breathwork.

She wrote her dissertation on “Full Emotional Expression,” an exploration in relational support within catharsis, where she challenges theories cautioning expressive emoting and demonstrates through a phenomenological study the efficacy of relationally supported catharsis and the often miss-understood use of "window of tolerance".

She describes The S.O.M.A Method as an experiential form of therapy, waking up the body's natural organismic healing capacity.
